So for almost 7 years I have driven past this restaurant and never gave it a thought of trying it. Last night my fiancé finally convinced to give it a chance. And oh my goodness, it was amazing!!!!!
Despite the looks, this place is the quintessential "hole in the wall", good eats! For $25 we got: a wing ding meal (7 wings and fries) peace cobbler, large limeade (soooo good!) minced pulled pork sandwich, and sliced bbq sandwich. Everything was very tasty, and left us wanting more!
I can't wait to go back again (hopefully today!) -

Have you been to Dunn's? Don't let the dated building and dingy surroundings deter you. Dunn's has been an East End RVA staple for well over a half century! It's a small drive in restaurant with no frills. You can go in and order at the counter, and wait on the bench for your food - or, you can turn on your headlights and they will come take your order! The old fashioned menu is on a board above the counter. There are no tables, just take out service!
If you're a fan of Dunn's, you know what they are famous for: the limeades, the Brunswick stew, the BBQ and the hush puppies! And I'm no stranger to the club sandwiches, the grilled cheese and the mini corn dogs either. The breakfast sandwiches are delish too! Specials are posted on a chalk board, such as homemade meat loaf or country fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans and a roll for under $10! The hearty comfort food on the menu is popular with the work force in the area! Go in on a weekday at lunchtime and you're sure to have a wait. But, it's worth it. The prices are good, the food is substantial and the service is usually pretty fast. The folks at the counter have been there forever, they are pleasant enough and pack your food efficiently.
And don't forget about the soft serve ice cream. I've been known to drive across town for a twist cone! Dunn's is a nostalgic experience. I'm a regular here and I hope they stick around for another 50 years! Dunn and done! -

They have perfect limeade- I do mean perfect!
The place runs pretty slow so avoid going around lunch if you're not into the rush.
There's a lot of people cooking back there so I'm not really sure what makes them go so slowly. They are older people, but I will say the limeade is totally worth the wait. -

Ahhh, Dunn's BBQ! I'm not a frequent patron, but clearly a devoted one. Dunn's has been on the same site as long as I can remember; one of the family told me today they've been there since the early 60s. Ownership is the third generation of the same family.
Good, down-home country cookin'. Tonight I had the Large Club + Onion Rings. Excellent! I saw Carrot Cake on the menu board, but declined it when I learned that it was not homemade. I'll probably try that in the future.
And for the ride home... is there anything better than fresh-squeezed limeade on a hot summer day? Of course not. And it's pretty darned good in the middle of February, as well. -

Food was ok. Nothing to rave about. Bought a minched pork sandwich and bologna burger. Large lime aid. 14.48 seemed over priced.
